While legroom and social distancing may be limited, taking a Matatu at least once is essential for experiencing local travel and reaching remote destinations.

You can roll first class for $45, second class for $34, or keep it real with third class at $7.

4. A Word of Street Smarts on Navigating Kenyan Traffic and Real Talk on Police Corruption

Before venturing onto Kenyan roads, it’s essential to know that Kenyan traffic can rival major cities like New York and Los Angeles.

Renting a car? Nah, that’s not the move unless you are comfortable with chaotic driving conditions.

Kenya is notorious for traffic jams, and not everyone adheres to traffic regulations.  And here’s the real tea –  the cops can pull over any vehicle for any reason, and yeah, police bribery attempts are not uncommon.

Street Smart Tips: Tourists renting cars may subject themselves to the above conditions so I do not recommend renting a car. Ubers are so cheap and are much better a hassle-free alternative.
